Never even heard of summon tanking. Got a quick run down before I swap to Google?

On rooted mobs, you build a bunch of aggro before you start actually fighting (in velious, Mage pets can do this and then the war taunts the mob to capture aggro). Then, once the fight begins and mob starts summoning, tank continually backs up out of melee range, getting summoned back constantly and backing out constantly so you are only taking ~1/3 the hits you would take if straight tanking.

see my post above.

but more specifically around summon tanking...

pretty much every 9(?) seconds the mob summons if whoever is highest on it's threat is out of melee range. we can abuse this on perma rooted mobs (such as yelinak). but to do this we need a lot of threat since our tank won't be there meleeing and getting lots of procs.

this is where mages come in. get a couple mage air pets hitting yeli and all the threat gets transferred to mage thanks to mitigation of the mighty. the mage can sit out of melee range and out of line of sight and take no damage or anything. pet fights away for 10, 20, 30, mins whatever you deem is required. now this mage has a gigantic amount of aggro now what? well the tank taunt's and gains an equal amount of aggro. at this point you're ready to start summon tanking.

now it's just a matter of your tank back peddling away from the mob, we backpeddle so that our face is always facing the boss and we don't get stunned(if you're an ogre) and still get the benefit of dodge etc. you'll get about 3-5 seconds(ish) out of range where the mob can't hit you before he summons you again. when you get summoned you'll get a couple of melee swings and bang out a provoke/taunt etc before you're out of melee range again from back peddling. just hold down the move back button constantly. selo's helps you move back faster too. if you want to get fancy you can back peddle + strafe sideways to get more movespeed while maintaining your frontal cone with the boss but im far too lazy for that.

that's pretty much it. goal is to reduce the amount of damage your tank takes, on yeli this also benefits the rampage tank as less melee swings from yeli = less rampage swings.

then the only thing that matters is the rest of your raid doesn't overtake your tanks threat. monks are very good because they can feign constantly to wipe threat without much impact on their dps, rogues also decent at keeping threat low. hell you could even camp a caster out and in again if you needed to.

i should note, the mage work is BEFORE the fight starts essentially. pets just wailing away on the boss at 100%, summons won't start until 97%. can just /pet stop if getting close to the 97% summon point and let mob regen to 100% then /pet attack again to keep building threat.

Perma rooted mobs like Ntov dragons/Yelinak and later on Creator/rhags etc. Basically, you just build agro before engage and have your tank get summoned every 6 secs and walk out of range of melee. Reduces the strait dps by levels of crazy. If you grab a loc out of range you can just spam /nav loc on the tank and everyone else just pumps it dead. you can do mage pets but also SK just chain casting snare or pally just chain casting stun works etc. Like he said it doesnt summon until 97% so you can build up tons of agro. The main thing is if you hand off the agro more than once or twice it kinda nulifies it. During PoP our crew likes to lead off with a mana burn and then MT takes over but if mq2melee is stupid it jacks it up quick.

with the loot pool being random which ones are ya'll hitting that are giving the best loot? wanna get my groups nice n geared up and spent a few kr to get the warrior up and the mage epic but lot of the other ones lacking. other tank has some greenmist stuff but wanna use g1 to get geared and then funnel gear when i can or do all the bosses share same loot table with lvl equivalent bosses? i know thats what the thread's about but a path to start and work up to would be nice. i just guess n check

If i remember correctly you can set your tank to auto backup also vs having to hold down the down arrow. Anyone remember how to have the tank constantly walking backwards, mimicking holding down the down arrow?

Got Naggy and Vox down with two groups now but still struggling with zlandi, would love to try some of the ntov rooted once but it think getting past Aary on 2 groups would be hard.

Zlandi is all about positioning and getting him debuffed/slowed. There's a little ledge healers can stay out of line of sight and avoid damage.

The Ntov dragons that are rooted have a LOT of hp. We do them with 36, summon tanking, and it takes 25 minutes or so. We haven't gotten past Aary.

can do on ledge before his liar, or can invis all the way to his lair. and, autosize your toons to size 1 to hide more, seems to help. You can tell if you are in LOS or not by targeting zland. If it shows an x next the name, then you can't see him (and he can't see you). If a circle, then you are vulnerable to his AE's, and you can cast on him. I think that's how it is, but could be wrong.

I was wondering about this, the hp pools. I tried the red wtvov dragon, i forgot his name, but called it at like 75%, and it felt like i wasn't doing any damage at all. So, that sort of detered me from trying anything else (like Doze the Cursed). Eeshan ate me up from teh AE's on my dps, so i'm working on alchemy to make some healing pots (5 clerics ar eon CH chain for me, not many healers left to heal the rest of the toons).

i was considering going to 36, but hearing Aary takes 25 min with 36 already, i can't imagine the other 6 open up a lot more targets.
