How I Multi-Box without External Help

This is just the basics that most multi-boxers know and probably do.
I saw someone asking in another post for some hints on how to multi-box so I thought this would be a useful thread.

Please add your own ideas or comments

Multi-boxing can be solo or in a grp. Depending on who is tasked to do what, determines how aggressive of a multi-boxer you are.

For this guide I will assume a few things:

1. You have 3 or more toons you want to play
2. Those toons are with in level to grp together and get EXP
3. You have one computer per toon
4. You know the basics of hotkeys
5. All accounts have same expansions (Can’t go to DoN or OOW if all don’t have 8-) )

The key I have found to Multi-boxing is all the enemies attention gets or is directed at one toon. When a mob is “Ping Ponged” between you and your bots, it makes life very hectic and difficult.

Bot Session 1.

70 ENC(puller), 66 WAR, 65 DRU, 56 CLR (leech)
________________________

Set up your hot keys:

Make simple ones so they do multiple functions.

DRU KEY 1
Line 1: /pause 2, /assist ENC
Line 2: /pause 60,/cast 1 (snare)
Line 3: /pause 60,/cast 1 (snare)
Line 4: /pause 60,/cast 2 (root)
Line 5: /sit
*** Pause not right 100=10 sec need to adjust for cast time + refresh time ***
*** Root to ensure not getting Ping Pong ***
*** Double snare incase of resist

DRU KEY 2
Line 1: /pause 60,/cast 1 (snare)
Line 2: /pause 60,/cast 3 (DOT1)
Line 3: /pause 60,/cast 4 (DOT2)
Line 4: /pause 60,/cast 5 (DOT3)
Line 5: /sit
*** Pause not right 100=10 sec need to adjust for cast time + refresh time ***

WAR Key
Line 1: /pause 2, /assist ENC
Line 2: /pause 2,/doability 7 (ATTCK )
Line 3: /pause 2,/doability 8 (Taunt)
Line 4: /pause 2,/doability 9 (Bash or Kick)
Line 5: /pause 2, (Would like DISC here but not sure how)
*** So I do DISC as another number hotkey /sigh ***

ENC Key
Line 1: /pause 60,/cast 2 (Slow)
Line 2: /pause 60,/cast 2 (Slow)
Line 3: /pause 60,/cast 3 (DOT1)
Line 4: /pause 60,/cast 4 (DOT2)
Line 5: /sit
*** Pause not right 100=10 sec need to adjust for cast time + refresh time ***
*** Pulled with Tash ***
*** Double Slow incase of resist

CLR Key
Line 1: /pause 2,/Target Tank
Line 2: /cast 1 (HoT)
Line 3: /pause 60,/cast 1 (HoT)
Line 4: /Sit
*** Pause not right 100=10 sec need to adjust for cast time + refresh time ***
*** Double HoT incase of fizzle
*** Make Similar Hotkey for Druid with heal and DS

EQ in multi windows is not hard .. just not preferred by me… but I do it sometimes

That’s why I have ENC hot key .. he is casting while I switch over to other screen and press hot key

Choose your Box session camp and Engage
This all depends on your mood. Safe EXP or reckless abandon????
I will park the 3 toons and go pull a mob with the chanter… using tash
Or I run off with the druid and pull with snare just depends on my mood and mob placement
As the mob is inc it is rooted in front of the tank so he has some fun building agro
Press War hotkey 1 and 2 – war starts fighting, taunts, bashed and Disc hate the mob
Press DRU hotkey 1 and the snare, snare, root chain goes off
Press ENC Hotkey 1 and the Slow, Dot, Dot chain goes off
Press Taunt and Hate Disc again if both up
Switch over to CLR and HoT tank
Press Druid hotkey 2 and resnare and DOT the mob
Keep things going till mob dies.

I know there area lot of ways to do things like this. And lots of combos to do it with.
This is just one to hopefully spark some good other ideas and conversation
Once I get back I have some other accounts I have acquired, I will be working a good pet Boxing GRP to see how high of lvl mobs I can get 8-)

Enjoy

my thing is i do not believe i have the number of comps to really 6 box i have 2 comps using eqw and e eq folders and got mq to work on 2 accounts at once and it loads seperatly on both

my question in if anyone 4+ BOXES what kind of systems do they run or what can i do to be able to 6 box on 2 machines

Ouch 6 box on 2 machines...

One of my puter (this is over a year ago) was a 2.8 proc / 1G ram / 128M video card

Don't ask me models or brands... lol its in storage.. will tell ya in a month + lol

But anyways.... I loaded 3 accounts and it was Super slow.. I mean crawling...it took 5 min to do a simple transfer

I would say over 3GIG processor.
easily 2 gigs of ram and a fast Front side bus(FSB) motherboard (MoBo)
Graphics cards... well i am not uptodate on the latest and greatest but I do remember reading about some graphics cards that take up 2 slots.. 512mb i believe

The more ram and better your graphics card are .. the better your games will run.

you could even get away with 2-5-3.0 processor if your MoBo can handle 2 + gigs of ram.

Some say the Hard Disk Drive (HDD) speed will make a difference... it does but i believe it is not noticable.

Something else I do is have 2 HDD installed in my puters. One for operating system and other for Storage/my documents

Also if you have not reloaded your computer since you got it... its time.

Windows was never meant to be a long term operating system. It is meant to be reloaded periodically depending on how many programs u load and unload.

Also do not load a bunch of other stuff on the puter. This slows down computers also.

SO endstate:

1. Upgrade or build your computer with as much ram as you can afford and the MoBo can handle (Upgrade Proc / MoBo if its too slow)
2. Get a 256 or higher Graphics card
3. Ensure all your fans in your computer work and the computer is cool as possible
4. Periodically clean out your computer (dust hinders keeping the puter cool)
5. Reload a fresh copy of windows.
6. Only load necessary programs (EQ, AntiVirus, etc etc)

you can build a decent machine for under a grand if you need to.

I have had the same shells for about 2-3 years and i just gut them and rebuild them every so often.

hope this helps

I 4 box.. tried 5 and it crashes, thats on one comp (getting another box soon so i can 6box+ :D ) alot of ppl use eqwindows, i cant stand it persionaly and nerver wants to bring up a 4th box so i stoped using it, i just use normal eq.

the comp i use atm is :

AMD AMD Athlon(tm) XP 3200+
512 mb of ddr ram
RADEON 9600 (265 or what ever MB of mem)

its a bit laggy but runs okish.

i generaly run 3 crews depending on what im doing and what i feel like doing

Crew 1
level 70 bard (tank puller some times slower mq2twist)
Level 70 cleric (healer duh using afk cleric mac)
Level 70 bst (slower/dps manual cant find a good bst mac)
Level 65 Rog (currently aaing, using Roghunter.mac)

i use this grp in WoS and dons etc (highish end content) with them all have 300+ aas and time+ gear (apart from rog shes at 100aas with ele gear)

Crew 2

Level 70 bard (tank, puller etc Twist etc.
Level 70 shaman (slower/healer/dps. manual)
Level 65 rog (dps. RH.mac)

these i use for PLing and exping in solro with the rog. when im not in the mood for vxed. considering tanking this log to fire when/if rog gets flaged but will mostlikely use this when i get my new comp nxt week..

70 war (tank, any good tank macs out there?)
70 bard (puller/dps)
70 cleric (healer... afkcleric.mac)
65 rog (dps RH.mac)
70 bst (dps/slower/offtank)
70 enchanter (for chits and giggles, buffle bot to soak the last spot)

Is it worth creating seprate EQ folders on your comp for each box or not? heard it stops lag but not sure on that front..

This is my first post, but I've been multi-boxing for years now and feel I have some advice to offer.

----The Rabbits Guide to 4 boxing in 10 easy steps ----

My crew is 70 warrior / 70 Ranger / 70 Cleric / 70 Ench (your procedures / prefs will vary with crew)

1st off. One toon should always have more attention than the others. That toon for me is the warrior.

2nd. I pull with the warrior or the ranger depending on difficulty of pull. Usually the warrior. But who ever pulls (if not the tank) needs to make sure they don't get killed before you establish aggro. I.E. Pull with low aggro means.

3rd. I have the warrior set up a good 15-20 feet (approx) in front of the party, and incite on inc. This will stick the mob to the warrior pretty well, I turn on auto attack, kick, taunt, and disarm (most people forget about this, it adds a little aggro).

4th. Immediately after intercept, I switch to the cleric and start a CH (warrior might be at 90% life when it lands, but better safe than sorry).

5th. I switch to ranger and turn on auto-archery and begin to cast entrap.

6th. I switch to the enchanter. The warrior should have enough aggro now to slow so I push the tash/slow hotbutton I have.

7th. Switch back to the warrior, kick, disarm, incite again. Make sure the mob is right in front of me.

8th. I switch back to the cleric and CH again, switch to the other toons and check for resists. If snare landed, I move the ranger behind the warrior and turn on auto attack (my melee dps > archery). If slow landed on the enchanter, he's pretty much done and leaches for the rest of the fight.

9th. Make sure you keep your tank up with HoT or CH (whichever you prefer).

10. Enjoy the xps.

lol, thanks Armysoldier... i enjoyed reading it just for the hate replies!! I have seen people whine about a lot of things ... but about people that box? Pathetic :)

I think I can put in a little bit of input here as well. I have two 3.2ghz processor machines, both with 120gb 7200rpm hard drives, 2gb of memory, one with nvidia geforce 6800gt 256mb video card, the other with radeon 9800pro 256 video card. With this setup I can run four eq setups (not eqwindows) on each machine and not really have any lag per se. I do try to do a lot with hotkeys and also macros so that helps. Just wanted to say that setup seems to work pretty well if you want to do around 6 or 6+.

I can do 6 on my 1 PC, its a 2.26ghz processor with 1k memory and a nvidia geforce 6800gt 256mb video card, i use MQ2 and EQPlaynice with EQWindows.

and on my labtop (3.2ghz, with 512mb) i can do 2-3.
