Greetings!!
I am going to tell you a little trick I picked up while playing Everquest. The trick, for those classes who can AE or Rain is used in Burning Woods, which is located of off the Dreadlands, on Kunark. In BW, there is a “Giant Fortress” filled with of course, Forest Giants, look at them here…. (http://eqbeastiary.allakhazam.com/search.shtml?id=3837 ).
The Giants aren’t to difficult to kill, though they do clobber you quite good. The loot from these mobs, isn’t anything to special, mostly just vendor fodder which does sell for some decent plat. This drops : (http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=1926)
Plus there are level 50+ spells for many classes that drop as well from the “Ancients”. There is a named giant “Gorgul Paclok” who is relatively easy and drops a lot of gems, (http://eqbeastiary.allakhazam.com/search.shtml?id=4912) Someone could make upwards of 200-400 plat an hour on average, perhaps more depending on if the forest loop or some of the other more “pricier” things drop.
The named generally spawns at the end of the ramp leading into the “Giant Fortress”, along with another giant who spawns at the other side of the ramp. Most times, you can pull one or the other without both, but sometimes you do get both. Neither hit hard or fast, so no worries. I’m not going to tell you how to break the spawn, you really don’t need to, the spawn time is relatively slow in comparison to other zones.
Inside the fortress, their will be almost a dozen (roughly) forest giants. It has been my experience, that the agro-range on these giants in particular is quite short, almost making them seem stupid and deserving of their fate. You will want to run into the fortress, carefully, and attract the attention of the giants to your left or right (whichever side of the fortress your camp is). With any luck, you should have 4 close by.
How you get their attention is up to you, you can snare them, cast a DD on them, or hit them with a stick…however you choose. This tip is a kiting form that nearly any class that can AE or Rain is capable of. Once you have their attention, run out the door. ( I always chose the camp to the left of the ramp as you look at it, facing the door to the fortress). As you exit the door, turn sharply out the door and go to your camp area. With any luck, the giants will follow, but your sharp turn has them “trapped in the wall”. At this point, you can AE the giants that are trapped, safely without actual running and in safety. Once all dead, stay to the side you found your giants on and carefully loot corpses. If done correctly and quickly, you should be able to clear the fortress before the two giants that guard the ramp spawn.
