I've been playing EQ since June of 1999. I still have my original character, a warrior, and I play him to this day. My first memories of running around Butcherblock mountains were amazing. I remember a goblin was chasing me so I ran into a house thinking closing the door would protect me inside. Little did I know mobs could hit you through walls, I died. I remember the first Tell I ever received, I had no idea what it was. I didn't know how to reply to it, I thought it was a EQ God talking to me. The first time I saw the chess set blew my mind, I thought I was pretty awesome exploring that far from Kaladim. Crushbone was my first real dungeon, and boy was it fun. I saw my first ogre outside and gave him a bunch of crap for being in "our" land, and he didn't belong. This is where I learned about trains, real ugly and horrible trains. I also learned how awful corpse runs were and how much the original EQ required you to interact with others and to trust others to get your corpse back. Losing experience was so depressing back then, one death without a rez could mean hours of experience lost. Here I am today, still loving the game but in a different way. I don't think I could ever enjoy it the way I did in 1999 and in a way I'm thankful it has changed, some for the better and some for the worse.
