Is it a known problem to get stuck zoning, have to ctrl+alt+del and <end program> the instance of EQ that got stuck? When I reload, I'm in the zone that I was going to in the first place.

thx all.

Ngreth has said a few un-updated UIs can cause a toon to not properly disconnect from the world which causes crashes at char select screen trying to swap toons. I wonder if you are having a similar issue.

Do you run a custom UI that is not updated? you would likely have errors in your uierrors.txt in your everquest folder

Are you running MQ2Dannet?
Do you have a firewall / AV installed that could be blocking ports?
What plugins is your macroquest.ini loading?

vanilla EQ UI
just for shits - I would run the eq file validation thing from the everquest launcher.

it is pretty unusual that mq2 would cause you to not be able to zone - its more likely you would crash with our without a dmp rather than just not make it through the zone

validation successful. all files up to date. not sure if anything changed.

btw, Merry Christmas everybody and thanks for the posts! ;)

no apparent change. still stuck on load screen. A guildie suggested using "Least memory usage" under display > advanced > Memory Mode. since the problem is intermittent, hard to tell if anything helps. I'd guess out of 20-30 zoning episodes a day, 2-3 will crash.

do you happen to be in a giant guild with thousands of users?

someone else had an issue with zoning when they had their guild window to "show offline" users and had thousands of members

no, the guild is pretty small... the map data is bigger than the guild window by far - is the map data what might be doing it? I usually leave the map up all the time on at least a couple of the guys for situational awareness and movement.
