It isn't much but it's the first time I have ever found any kind of exlpoit 
This is on the Maelin Starpyre server (presumable other servers too), in Rath Mount zone. There is a simple quest to turn in 3 quality wolf, bear, cat pelts and recieve a higher quality pelt; 3LQ = 1MQ, 3MQ = 1HQ. The turn in mob is Dar Forager Lumun at loc -2083 +207, I think you have to be a froglik or possible have the right faction to do the quest (not sure).
Today (March 15, 2007) I was turning in pelts and recieveing higher quality pelts 1 for 1; 1LQ = 1MQ, 1MQ = 1HQ. This worked for me for both bear and cat pelts, I didn't have any wolf pelts to test. Hopefully I am using the right icon and forum, if not let me know and I'll try to do better next time
