I thought I would post this because there seems to be a lot of nervousness about using MQ2 lately. This is a strategy that I have devised and it really works with any class that you wish to PL.
I have been PL my bard with my Chanter, who is currently 66. While I speak in terms of a Chanter, it would just as easily work with any class with a Damage Shield (which, nowadays, is anyone that has space to carry the DS potions, so everyone!). This little strategy is the same that I always use to PL an alt.
The first thing I do is cast a rune on myself (speaking as a chanter, but this can be any class because at the lower levels the mobs hit for next to nothing, and all any class needs is a few healing potions), I cast the chanter 66 rune Ethereal Rune, absorbs 1950 dmg, as well as a Peridot Rune, the one I use is Rune of Zeborukk..... absorbs another 850 damage. Then, I cast the only DS that the chanter's get, Feedback, at this level, it deals out around 30 damage... more than sufficient for the moment.
Level 1 to 20 The first place I go is PC..Paludal Caverns... Railway Central... the more mobs the better!! Take your powerleveller to the middle of the first camp and make sure you have your DS and your runes up, cast your AoE tash spell and pull the whole camp to you.. these mobs only hit for 10 to 30 each, I dont usually bother to slow them at all because then you just prolong their agony and they die more slowly on your DS. As the mobs are beating themselves to death on your chanter DS, have your bard sitting next to her and start playing their AoE damage song, from memory, it level 2ish and deals out around 5 points of damage, but thats more than enough for the bard to get all the xp. If you are PL a class that has no AoE damage, then you need to individually hit each mob at least once to get all the xp, this is where the Chanter may need to slow the mobs before they beat themselves to death on the DS because they will die very quickly at this rate.
My Chanter/Bard Combo was gaining a level for each pull, but don't forget that you can double the xp if you have Lesson of the Devoted (LotD), and you have the opportunity to gain well in excess of 2 levels per pull. This took me around an hour to get to level 20, by then, the mobs had turned LB and it became harder to get any good xp.
Level 21 - 51
This is MY favorite zone... Echo Caverns ... it was a massive xp hotspot and I am completely suprised that not that many people seem to use it on my server, from level 20 to 30, I played in the "easy" side with the boglings and needlites, again, using the same system as above, but I usually try to single/double pull the boglings (especially the warriors as these start hitting quite hard and even with 2800 worth of rune, can eat through it rather quickly if you get too many at once) and each of the bogling warriors gave me 10.7% xp (thats 21.4% xp with LotD!!!), so with the LotD, I killed 5 bogling warriors and gained a level each time. The only reason I waited until now to go to EC is that the level 2 AoE damage song is usually resisted, but you get another along the way.. which can also be resisted, but nowhere near as much).
At this point, I also threw a beserker type spell on the bard, just in case... it absorbed a few hundred points of incoming damage and helped keep my admittedly weak bard alive along the way
The needlites hit really fast, but that also means that they go down VERY quickly when they hit your DS.
From 31 to 49 I went to the hard side with the underbulks etc. Here, there are 3 main camps... the four underbulks, the taskmaster, and the camp near the zone line to "The Deep". All the way through, up until around 44, I got around 4% or 1 blue bubble per kill. I have just reached 49 there, the xp has slowed a little, but they all still con DB, I got around 20% xp by doing the 3 camps, the underbulks, the taskmaster and the camp near the zone in to The Deep. By the time you kill the last camp, you can go back to the first and by the time you get there, you can stop for about 30 sec and watch the camp repop and go on with the whole scenario again. I have actually managed to gain a level after five rinse and repeats of the above, and a time frame of which I estimate to be about an hour per level (I usually only play for about an hour and a half, once I played for 2 and a half hours and gained 3 levels there), and this is without using LotD!!
If you are feeling particularly nasty (and who doesn't??) you can go and slaughter the kings of above and below and really go forward on the xp, though you may want to reconsider this option, because there is a merchant nearby that you can sell all the stuff that you have picked up along the way to.
At level 49, I went to see if it was still worthwhile to go there and after one round of killing through the 3 camps (and ignoring the kings) I still gained a yellow (20%) after the 3 camps, my downtime is now about 5 minutes at the end of the 3rd camp. Also, the stonegrabbers here can carry up to 9pp each, after doing the camp here for a short time, after the pp, the underbulk claws (which can be sold to the tinkerer merchant near the kings for over 3pp each, so to me this is a dream zone because of the merchant that is inzone, and the main reason I haven't killed the kings camp more than once), and some of the other drops here (the phosphorus fibre from the taskmaster sells for nearly 50pp) I have realized that I am now carrying a few thousand pp from this easy zone.
At lvl 50 and doing the 3 camps above, I get 16% for the next level (or 4 blue)...so now the xp is starting to drop off a bit more, still DB but also killing a lot quicker. Going to add the camp near the lifts and see how it goes, but I may just add the kings camp as well as the lifts and then see what the wipeout of the zone gives me for xp, but the xp really drops off at level 52 when all the mobs con LB.
Well, this is my short write up on getting an alt to 52... all in all, it took me about a week of playing to get it to this level, but I am sure if RL didn't get in the way, it would have gone much more quickly :p
I hope you enjoyed reading something that didn't actually involve MQ2 and using cheats
