Ok, What is the hold up with putting up MQ2 on this site? I see the source code and compile on other sites. Is it not approved to post here?

I have the source and compiled dlls.

Bah, just checked my zip and its the already compiled version floated around. Weird that the source hasn't been leaked somewhere. I guess they don't want folks coding new plugins for it.

If anyone would like to help with our MQ2 EQMac compile let me know, I'll invite you to the group.

Just looked and the compile I got was already compiled for them. Looks like EQMule holds the keys to the source. The Macroquest.exe file was wrapped in a loader to authenticate with another site. Correct me if I'm wrong here, but it looks like EQMule modified the mq2 source from an old compile. I haven't really given EQMac much thought in a while, but where does the open source community stand on progress towards a full blown compile?

Go ahead and add me Red, I'll tinker around with it at work tomorrow.

I do not wish to have any mq2 plugins like gk or warp and the likes on the eqmac server, if people want to do those things they can do it on other servers...
If you really are going to create a working mq2 for eqmac you can update offsets and structs from the source for aug 14 2004 which is the one I updated my version from.
I'm reluctant to post my offsets and so on publicly at this time, because I'm afraid people will abuse it and server will be shut down.

I'm working on it, I've gotten the offsets, but I feel the same way as you, eqmule. I'm still working on structs, but when it gets done, it would be a shame to have mq2 used for the things that caused the community to degrade before.

maybe we can come to a better agreement and do a closed source mq2? we CAN make it so mq2 won't accept any plugins except the default ones....

MQ2 for Test is closed source.... right? so why can't we do the same with mq2 for eqmac?

Yeah, I think all the folks that have the knowledge to do GK / No Delay / ZoneCrash etc... wouldn't recreate them. Then again, it only takes one person to mess it all up. I have to say that the temptation of using GK with No Delay to defeat any boss in the game rather tempting. If one person does this, it will be the end of the server though. There are rotations for all important boss mobs and nothing is instanced on the server except for PoTime. I have to agree to keep it closed.

P.S. I'd recommend releasing the closed source MQ2 as wide as possible. Since if everyone has a functioning MQ2 there will be no desire to code it ourselves. If I do code it myself, I think there are a couple plugins I would use and abuse. Maybe not ND or GK, but definitely will be using NoTrade, Warp, PiggyZone, and Enhanced version of Exchange ;)

this is my suggestion... someone that does have the knowledge on how to do it compile a build that has no extras... basic vanilla... restrict it so the only plugins that can load into said build are the ones that came with the build... (i've seen this done i'm sure it can be done again)... this will prevent any chance of gk/nd/any active hack from reaching the server... preserving the server from being shut down...

k i went back and read everything... eqmule... is it possible we could get a simular compile for redguides as the one you have made for the other site that noob was talking about? seems that has reasonably worked out...

Yeah the problem is if the source code is modified by a veteran in the hacking community it will be the end. I remember all the hacks and even have the source for many old plugins that are considered game breaking. I'm sure there are many others that are like me, and with a limited skill set could make these plugins work again. I'm all for eqmule keeping the keys to castle so to speak and just releasing a closed compile. I trust his judgement, more than my own when it comes to mq2.

Back in 2006 I remember getting several years of redguides subscriptions for releasing a fix for warp after the devs changed the the movement struct, and added a couple other roadblocks for the mq2warp plugin. I've always flip floped on warp and now believe its a very destructive plugin. (Given, I came to that conclusion when a group of players warped on top of a named I was camping... lol) Needless to say, its better if the modified source from eqmule never sees the light of day or makes it in my C++ compiler.

Btw, some asshat jumped on EQMac and zoned into PoTime and Trained ole Temerity in Phase 4 of PoTime. Level 1 Toon at that... Seems like something is a foot and the server is no longer safe.
