Hello there fellow Redguide member!

Allow me to introduce myself, I am Nijhal and I am here to help you as much as I can. As are all the members here at Redguides!

In this guide you will find the basic How-To's of Macroquest, here at Redguides. We will go over how to load and unload plugins, how to run macros, as well as knowing the difference between macros and plugins. Some basic commands will be explained here for you as well as some of the basic features.

So lets get started shall we?

First things first, your going to want to download the newest version of Redquest, this is the Redguides latest working compile of Macroquest. You can find this in the EQ1 Strategies & Cheats section of Redguides.

Just click on the stickied post Redquest Version XXX. In there you will find a long list of things included, including plugins and commands to use them, links to cource code and alot more.

Scroll down to the bottom of the very first post and you will find the link to download it.

When you click it, save it on your computer somewhere where you will remember where it is.

After its done downloading, open the zip file with any zip program. If you are runnign Windows XP this will be built in. If your running Windows 98, 2000 or another version, you may need to download a zip program. If you need a zip program, I recommend Winzip, which can be found HERE.

Okay, now lets unzip Macroquest into a directory. Use a directory where you know where it is and can get to it easily. I have mine in Program Files on my C drive. And just made a shorcut to it on my start menu.

Once it is unzipped, goto your macroquest folder and open it up.

Once its opened, find the Macroquest.exe and right click on it. In this menu that will appear choose the following "Send To > Desktop (create shortcut)". Doing this will give you a shortcut on your desktop to run Macroquest easily, without having to always open the folder.

Now, goto your desktop and double click the shortcut for Macroquest. You will notice am small Macroquest icon appear in your system tray. That means its running.

Okay, lets fire up Everquest!!

When you log into your toon selection, you will notice a "MQ" window. This is normal. Lets log into game...

Now that we are in game, lets learn some basics. If your macroquest chat window isint open, lets open this up. You can do this real easy by typing in any macroquest command, I will use /macro for this example, now go ahead and type in /macro if your "MQ" chat window isint open, this should open it. If it didnt, type /plugin MQ2chatwnd and /plugin MQ2chat. Now it should be open.

Okay, basic Macroquest commands. "Example" will be the term I use here for any plugin, macro or commands.

Loading and Unloading a plugin.

To load a plugin simply type...

Rich (BB code):
 /plugin MQ2Example

This should "echo" in the "MQ" chat window....

Rich (BB code):
Plugin 'MQ2Example' loaded

If it didnt, you dont have that plugin or you spelled it wrong.

Okay, to unload a plugin simply type...

Rich (BB code):
/plugin MQ2Example unload

This should "echo" in the "MQ" chat window....

Rich (BB code):
Plugin 'MQ2Example' unloaded

Alright, now that we can load and unload plugins, let move on to macros...

Alot of macros available require some or alot of setup, some dont require any setup at all. Be sure to read the thread where you got the macro from for this information. If you still have problems, post in the thread where you got the macro from. If you cant findthe thread, post your questions, along with as much information as possible about your problem in the Help, Questions, & Requests forum.

For this example on how to run a macro, we will use ShowBonuses.mac. This macro comes with your compile and is very straight forward and easy to use.

To run this macro, simply type...

Rich (BB code):
/macro showbonuses

This should 'echo' into your "MQ" chat window all your toons stats, such as shielding, mana and hp regen ect. This is a wonderful macro that will be used alot for refrence on your toons current stats.

Some macros dont end on their own and you need to stop them yourself. If a time should arise that you would like to stop a current macro from running its real simple. Simply type...

Rich (BB code):
/end

And the macro will stop.

Well thats it for the basics on how to load, unload, run macros, and run MQ2 in general. Lets tackle some more LEET stuff.

Lets say you see a macro on Redguides here that you want to use except there is no download link, just a bunch of code. Lets save this to your computer shall we?

What your going to want to do it highlight the whole macro you want to use, this is the whole code box. Do this and right click on it and choose 'copy'.

Now, open up notepad and right click anywhere in the notepad and choose 'paste'. At this point you should have the macro there in your notepad.

Lets save it!!

Click on "File > Save As"

This will open a dialod box, with where you want to save the macro to.

First lets navigate to your MQ2 folder on your computer, once in that folder, double click on the 'Macros' folder. When your in that folder, lets name the macro...Under 'File Name' type...

Rich (BB code):
Example.mac

Now, right under that is a drop down box, 'Save files as type' Drop that box down and choose 'All Files' and click 'Save'.

Congradulations! You just saved your first macro!!

Note: Macros do not need to be 'Compiled' like plugins do.

Okay moving right along, now we know how to do alot more than when we first got here huh? Well sit down and lets keep going!!

Lets say you only want to run certain plugins for certain toons, or you want certain things to be done as soon as you log in so you dont have to type it all in by hand. Well, heres how you do this...

Were going to make a configuration file for your toon, within this configuration file you will find commands that will be run every time that toon logs into the game.

Open a notepad file...

In this file were going to put in all the commands we want to run when this toon logs in. We will call this toon John and he will be on the Zek server.

This file will include all the commands you want to run...

Rich (BB code):
/speed 2.5
/docrack eb on
/anon
/plugin MQ2Piggyzone
/plugin MQ2Example unload
/macro example

You can use any comamnds you want, I am just using an example here to show you what can be done with this file. Now that we have all we want in the file, lets save it.

Click on "File > Save As"...
Now navigate to your MQ2 folder...
Remember "Save files as type"? Choose "All Files"

Name the file "Zek_John.cfg" and click "Save".

Now all the commands in that file will be run ever single time you log the toon John into the Zek server. Pretty cool huh?

From time to time the powers that be at sony will patch everquest, causing the need for an update to Macroquest. This is simple enough to do...

When a new Redquest is posted, just simply download the zip and extract it to your MQ2 folder and overwrite all the old files with the new updated ones.

Heres a list of files you generally do not 'need' to overwrite.

MQ2Map.ini
Macroquest.ini
MQ2Piggyzone.ini
waypoints.ini
MQ2Hud.ini

I tell you this now because if you make special changes to these files, they will be lost if you overwrite them. The easiest thing to do would be just delete these files from the zip file before you extract them to the MQ2 directory.

Well thats it, as complete as I can think of for a beginners guide to MQ2. I hope you enjoyed this reading and if anyone has anything to contribute, please do.

You forgot to put big "Macroquest can get you banned" and "Do not macro around other players" notices in , but other than that looks pretty damn good.

*sigh* more noobs macroing :-P

Look, I hate to point this out, because it's always good to see more people writing guides but...

1) I've got a post that talks about all of this and more in the guides section.
2) You load a plugin with "/plugin mq2example", not "/load mq2example". The "/load" command loads a UI, not a plugin.
3) The only ini file that you want to get rid of is MQ2DoCrack.ini. You want to save EVERY ini file in your folder...you make ini files every time you use most of the plugins in the Redquest zip, and those settings are nice to save.
4) Actually talk about what the difference between a macro and a plugin are. Define them. Describe them.

Got questions still about MQ2, and the risks involved, etc? Try THIS POST.

Heh I was tired when I wrote this. Good thing you caught /load. thanks for pointing it out z. Love the new Sig btw.

so if i have a mac in a older compile will it still work if i cut and paste it in the new compile or will it need to be rewrote?

I cut and paste my whole macro folder over to the new compile now I have hundreds of macros so do not want to loose them ...... also look at copying your .ini files except for your docrck file......keeps you from having to reload all your plugins

Macros rarely need to be updated with patches. Plugins do.
