Looting / no aggro...

I killed a mob where there should of been loot..at least it has a large loot table..but when I killed it (with no agro...or at least I was out of its agro range) ..when i went to loot it there was nothing on it? ...do I need to get agro at the last second before the kill in order to loot the mob?

I was right...had to gain agro at the very end....answered my own question..
