Greetings, I'm going to be in the market for buying some loot in EQ in the next couple of weeks, but I'm curious as to how the Bazaar works.

Years ago I used playerauctions but the server I plan on buying for isn't available there.

Is there any sort of buyers protection, or is it a simple private message payment/transfer information transaction?

Also, some sellers also require buyers to have feed back or some sort of "verification", how do I go about doing this in order to become a trusted buyer?

It's simply a sub forum for finding buyers/sellers. Redguides does not get involved with the transaction like PlayerAuctions does. This is simply a message board with a feedback system to try and promote a safe trading environment with reputable people through leaving feedback after transactions happen.

If you don't have any feedback it could be a little harder to do business because you have to establish more trust.

Take a look at the link to get red verified to help establish trust with this community.

As far as safety, it's a step above craigslist, a step below playerauctions. You need to be careful and judicious when picking a trading partner.
