Many thanks to a certain mage friend of mine (whom I'm not sure would want his name mentioned here) for helping me to compile this. If this post is worthy enough, wouldn't mind some redcents or extension to my subscription in EQ forums ;)

Audio triggers are a very useful tool when raiding. When you have 6+ chat channels, raid, guild, group, etc… they make life a lot easier by giving you more time to read /raidsay and your class channels. I have compiled a complete walkthrough and list of audio triggers that I recommend having.

Setting Up Custom Audio Triggers:

Step 1:Go to http://www.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php and type in what you want the trigger to say.
(For example, one of hatchet's things is that you have to duck. Perhaps just put DUCK, you do not want them to be excessively long or you may miss another trigger.)

Step 2: You can then click Speak to hear it and you can change the voice (there are 6 options in English).

Step 3: Once you are satisfied with the sound file, click Download and right click the link at the top. Choose Save Target As and find the Default Audio Trigger file inside your EQ folder (probably going to be under C: - Program Files - Sony - EverQuest - Audio Trigger- Default).

Step 4: Save the file (name it something so you know what it is, best is probably just whatever it says).

Step 5: Once you’re done making your sound files, load up EverQuest. If you had EverQuest loaded while you were saving the files, you must log out and log back in for them to show up.

Step 6: Click the little EQ box, Actions, Audio Triggers and it will pull up a new window.

Step 7: Type the EXACT phrase that will go into your window when the action is performed into the PATTERN box. It does not have to be the whole phrase, but at least 2 or three words.
(a good example is when you get a gift of mana, the game will say "you have been granted a gift of mana". You can put in "have been granted" and it will work. Also avoid common phrases like “gift of mana” that people might say, because chat in say, guild, group and raid can trigger these sounds also.)

Step 8: Next choose the sound from the drop down list of audio files you have created. (mine says "gift of mana")

Step 9: Click create and you now have audio triggers. They are honestly life savers and are very important for some raids. It is best to test the trigger after you set it up by saying it in say, guild, group or any other thing that will cause it to pop up in a normal chat window. If said in a tell window, it will not trigger.

You can make them for everything from invis wearing off to death touch for Vish. If you want to make a trigger for something and do not know the phrase please feel free to ask a raid leader or anyone in the guild and it is likely that someone will know.

Audio Triggers for Specific Raids:
Below is a list of the audio triggers you need and which mobs they are for. The phrases in quotes are the phrases you must put in PATTERN to get the trigger to work, you can make the audio file whatever you wish, but the phrases in parenthesis are what I recommend for the sound file.

Hatchet:
1. "You should hide between his legs" (move between his legs)
2. “He has no way to strike you” (get out from between his legs)
3. "You should duck" (duck)
4. “Passes harmlessly overhead” (stand up)
5. "You should get as far away as possible" (move away from hatchet)
6. “It clatters to the floor” (stop running)
7. "Levels his horns at *your name here*” (run until he stops chasing you)
8. “Stops to catch his breath” (stop running)
9. "A device has been activated" (tanks move hatchet to trap, move away from trap)

Vishimtar:
1. “You sense your doom approaching” (Vish DT, find cloud)

Zi-Thulle:
1. “Your movements become stiff” (Zi DT, get cure)

AMV:
1. “You feel the cold grip of death” (Death Touch- get cure)

Ture:
1. “Roars with a fury as it surveys its attackers” (AE Rampage, back off)

General: (These ATs will make your life easier, if you want additional ones that are more specific to your class, it would be a good idea to ask in your class channel)
1. “HELP ME KILL” (Attack)
2. “Has become enraged” (Turn attack off)
3. “You feel yourself starting to appear” (Invis wearing off)

Very Nice guide.

Mod can we get this thrown to the guide section please.

If you have a microphone on your computer, then you can make your own custom audio files using the Sound Recorder applet that comes with Windows.

You can also use *.wav file sound clips you can find on numerous web sites. I'm partial to sound clips from classic cartoons, movies and old TV shows, as well as sound effects clips of all kinds. I have and use audio files of klaxon horns, Tigger, Flip Wilson, Bugs Bunny, the Addams family butler Lurch, a dog bark, the Roadrunner, farts, Elmer Fudd, an old cash register being opened, Daffy Duck, The Fonz, Eric Cartman, and many more.

Here's a few more tips. There seems to be an upper limit (32?) on the number of sound files the game will use from a single directory, but you can put all your most commonly used wav files into the "shared" folder found inside the "audio triggers" folder and access them from any audio trigger set.

Here's how to create your own, custom-named audio trigger sets.

Window out of the game and open Windows Explorer. Locate and open your "Everquest" folder (generally either in the "Program Files" folder, or inside a "Sony" folder inside the "Program Files" folder).

Inside the "Everquest" folder you'll find an "Audio Triggers" folder. Open that.

Now create a new folder inside the "Audio Triggers" folder. Try to keep the names short and obvious. The name of the folder will be the name of your audio trigger set.

Copy into the new folder any special audio files you may need to access that are not already in your "shared" folder.

To access the new set you'll need to camp to the Server Selection screen and then get back into the game. Now open the audio triggers window, and select the new set.

Now you can type in your audio trigger patterns and associate them with appropriate audio files.

You can add audio files without even leaving the game. Here's how.

Window out and create a new file in the folder for the audio trigger set where you want it to appear (or the shared folder if you want all sets to have access to it). Alternatively just copy an existing *.wav file into the appropriate folder. Now just switch audio trigger sets to any other set, and then switch back to the set you want to use. The new sound will be accessible now.

Thanks :) Good idea about the .wav files! Sound clips would be hilarious and add to the "atmosphere." Can you imagine hearing Porky Pig's "T-t-t-that's all folks!" when you are killed?
Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section, wasn't exactly sure where to put it.

I'll let the kitten live this time, but don't let it happen again!

Great write up and nice examples, when I log in I say "Howdy, /em Roars with a fury as it surveys its attackers"

/kicked to the guides section.

3. “You feel yourself starting to appear” (Invis wearing off)
This is the best one for us with the stupid invis that wears off. I use this all the time and i dont know how many times its saved me. I have a audio file that says "Invis droping ....again" with a sigh at he end. I would hope all have this one. Unless you like trains

Well I just got a nasty pm in a redcent about "ripping this from a certain guild website." This was sent to me in a pm on my own guild's website from a friend in game, and I posted it on our website with his blessing. I did not intentionally "rip" it from ANYONE's website and dont' appreciate being flamed, albeit privately, for doing so.
I swear, some people....

I play a monk, trains come with the territory.

My guild has a policy: You can train the ever living fsck out of guildies, but not non-guildies.

Beastlords <3 me.

Just to try to be helpful, here are some more patterns that some might find helpful. It is the pattern pointing to the wav file I use. The name of the wave file should give you a pretty decent idea of what it says. I'm also trying to only put down ones that have not already been posted.

General:
Invites you to join a raid --> raidinvite.wav
Invites you to join a group --> groupinvite.wav

OMM
You hear a strange buzzing around your head --> lashers.wav
You feel a gaze of deadly --> mask.wav
You have been marked for death --> mark.wav

DoN dragons
left arm, preparing to rake --> danger_left.wav
right arm, preparing to rake --> danger_right.wav
tail, preparing to attack --> danger_behind.wav

QUEEN
right as she adjusts her footing --> danger_right.wav
left as she adjusts her footing --> danger_left.wav

Hatchet (this has already been posted, but I like this form better, doesn't rely on entering your characters name)
He's about to charge directly at you! --> kitehatchet .wav

Daosheen (sp??) (These are much better than trying to figure out which to click)
You are dumbstruck by the pres --> red.wav
You lose your will to fight --> blue.wav
Your blood is tainted with magical essence --> green.wav
A festering darkness saps your strength --> yellow.wav
Allegiances shift as Dao --> stop_click.wav
Daosheen calls upon the ele --> stop_click.wav
A bolt of light joins the red and blue crystals for a moment --> start_click.wav
A bolt of light joins the yellow and green crystals for a moment --> start_click.wav

EDIT: Also, if you want to add some fun to your audio triggers, check out the site http://www.moviewavs.com/

@RedDog: Sure, when I get home I'll put them into a zip and upload them somewhere. But be afraid, it could be a crappy upload site like rapidshare or something. They are fairly basic, but useful

@thez: Perhaps, I've not used the customsounds plugin, but there are times when I don't have MQ running for various reasons. Patches, a GM scare, playing from my crappy laptop, ect. Losing audio triggers for some events will probably get me wiped out pretty quickly, so I've tried to not rely on MQ when I don't have to. /shrug

I find audio triggers in game most worthwhile and like everyone else I hate the default beeps and dings with EQ. So I tried that ATT one linked a while back and it was a vast improvement over the beeps.
However the voices on ATT suck. Any links to other sights where you can get some good voices. Something along the line of Liz Hurley would be awesome just as one example.

You can also go to http://www.screamingbee.com
You can use the program for free for 14 days i think. They have voice packs you can download and use or make your own. I use this for my web site as well as for on Team Speak. Nothing like making a new account and sounding like a girl to screw with the new members heads LOL

Some other usefull audio triggers I am using:

dispelled
enrage
no longer enraged
died (for other raid members)
levi wearing off
successful evade (rogues)
mob begins casting gate
WTS ...BoC ...10k (lol)

Audio triggers made ez.

step 1) Create your audio clips save them as .wav files.
step 2) Create a sub-folder in your Everquest\Audiotrigger directory name it whatever you choose.
step 3) copy all of yor .wav files to your newly created sub-folder
step 4) go to your Everquest\Userdata folder
step 5) edit your AT_foldernamewhereyoursoundsare_yourcharactername_yourserver.ini file.

The format for your AT_foldernamewhereyoursoundsare_yourcharactername_yourserver.ini file is as follows
Rich (BB code):
[Triggers]
Pattern0=your trigger text
Sound0=your trigger sound
PatternCount=1

Just increase the pattern count for each additional pattern added.

step 6) rename the file name to match where you have your wav files stored, your own personal character name, your own servername.

You now have a .ini file and a folder you can zip up and share with anyone ready to go with no inputting needed in game. Simply have those you share it with change the AT_folder_character_server.ini file to reflect their own character.
