EQ - Unusual AFK Macro Concept

I was member of RedGuides for a couple years, but then quit EQ due to domestic faction. I haven't played for about a year, and don't know when I ever will... But I wanna!

So, to help assuage my (hidden from my spouse) continuing EQ addiction, I thought I might try to get a little access to the old Redguides EQ forums and see what's going on these days.

My submission was pulled sort of at random by browsing my old macro directory to see what I might have that was totally self-generated. I came up with a snippit of code I used in a modified farm.mac. For those who haven't uset it, Farm was a greenie (now grey, I guess ;-) ) automated AFK farming macro.

No, I am not trying to push yet another tweaked farming macro on you. This is a subroutine (or two) that I added, that you can add, to your own macros.

Each language was generated through one of those free translation web sites, and each says a different message in a different language. The Cyrillic and Greek fonts used to work, but I see now in my current notepad that there are some "?"'s over some of the text. No worries, I expect that you will want to make up your own messages anyway and will replace the languages with your own selections.

Now comes the disclaimer. I can't say for sure if this was my working version or some intermediate development version, and naturally MQ2 has probably changed a lot over the last year or so and the same code might not work anyway. I don't even have EQ or MQ installed these days, and probably won't anytime in the near future. Therefore, I can't call this working code because I can't verify it. Sorry. (I think I had a series of IF statements in the final version, but this was from a CD backup and I am way too rusty on macro writing to realistically tackle code right now).

So... take this as a "concept" that was certainly original back when I played EQ. For all I know someone has already done it and posted it by now, though I hope this is still an original idea worthy of some free access. My reasoning is that if a GM is not really sure you are AFK macroing, they would be a bit less likely to tackle the language barrier to harass you. If you are totally busted, then I suppose they would just ban you with no conversation. My theory is that this might just made you too much of a pain in the a$$ to bother with. /shrug Or maybe it would put off another player enough to not petition you.

Couldn't hurt.

Well, if it isn't accepted, somebody please give Armysoldier a red cent for me. Those TS macros used to be one of my favorites. :#

Thanks. You guys are fast! I'm in.

So. After percolating in my subconscious overnight, I now recall what I did. Rather than editing a variable to change languages, I simply commented out all of the Varset's except for the one I wanted. That is actually easier for the user than setting a "Language" variable within specific syntax constraints, and easier for me that I didn't have to write a bunch of conditional's, and more efficient execution-wise as well.

I couldn't help but laugh. =p

"Por favor não me incomode. Eu não compreendo o inglês. Caça boa a você (Portugese)"

hmm i would never say it like this. it's not exactly wrong though.

por favor, me deixe em paz, não entado inglês. tão... bom dia

just 2 cents ya know

If anyone decides to use this, just keep in mind most of the sentences have spelling/grammar mistakes in it. So doublecheck on them before using.

Or chuckle at the fact that spelling/grammar mistakes are now so common within in-game chat even in English that they aren't even proof of anything other than a poorly educated (or intellectually lazy) player.

:D

Hah. This post still has legs, I see.

Cool. I Hve many ides for EQ fun. hopely 1 day I can help u moore.

Yep. See how quickly you accept spelling and grammer errors? This macro snippet also doubles as a PC proximity detector.

BTW, Addicted wouldn't let me in as Tradertesla, so I created Tradertesla2.

Have fun, and don't get banned....

P.S. I can't recall for sure, but I think I edited the translations to include misspellings on purpose. For realism, of course. That was about 2 years ago, so I can't be sure. You might want to create your own messages with typos.

real german is like: /varset PCMsg Bitte stören Sie mich nicht. Ich verstehe kein Englisch. Gute Jagd wuensche ich Ihnen.
