Ok, I can understand people who are skeptical of this. I can only say it did indeed happen. I was on as my bard macroing away, and surfing the web. My bard dies, and I was booted to server select screen. I sign him back on, and get my cleric to come rez him. Well, he was actually at the entrance of Dulak. I figure the server just didn't save the toon, and no harm done. Since I didn't have to rez him I was happy to save that little time. I run back to my boat, and what do I see? My corpse! With all my gear!! So, being the easy-moder I am /gate to pok and put all my lore items in the shared bank, just in case I could actually loot the corpse. I was still very skeptical since I've been playing on and off for almost 5 years, and never seen this! Trust me, I've gone LD and died a lot!
I come back and /warp to corpse and drag it to zone. I loot it!! Unfortunately, I barely have this toon geared. However, I did have a copper hammer of striking on him, and chodikai boots that are worth some cash. So I got 1 of each for free! Needless to say I was estatic. I tried this out several more times ready to buy a fungi tunic and walk around with 50k plat if I could copy this. I could never get it to repeat. I just wanted to let Redbot know, in case he wants to mess with it.

haha nice i never seen this happn to anyone i know but i hear about it a lot...

This has happned to me one time when I died zoneing it just seems to be a random glitch noone can ever repeate it there was one perioid a long time ago where some people did learn to use zoneing in conjuction with dieng by dots I belive it was to dupe a corpse but that was a long time ago that has long been nerfed but it still does happen evrey once in awhile. That and one time I got a head GM to reimburse me some uber stuff that I never even lost right after a server crash unexpectedly happened one time. That was funny and was also along time ago. Server was down for like a day but I got it it was funny.

aye, same thing has happened to me a long while back and a friend recently.. I figured out what is happening the second time around with it.

Well, first when you are about to get duped you will not be able to recieve tells, you can send em, but no one will respond, when you request a /who all on yourself your not there..

What we pinpointed it as is the game is not 'saving' your character anymore, its like the server has lost you, but you continue to hang on!!

This happens RARELY on zones and goes away as soon as you get them, unless you know what to do!! You will remain unsaved as long as you keep in zone. The second zone you will return to saving, trading is also something that will bump you back into saveing, anyone who was around back when they accually displayed your saves knows some other actions that save..

What happens is when you die the server saves you(usually), then your corpse, but when it goes back to find what your EXP was, it loads your last save so it knows how much exp to take away.. Problem with this is that when it goes back to look at you and your last save you are in another zone, and according to it you didn't die and it causes you to CRASH!! On reload of EQ you will find yourself in a previous spot you had been, and you will have everything you had at that point(exp, loot, aas, ect. ect.) When you go back to zone you had been, your corpse will be there!!

If caught you will be banned, but I doubt they can catch you if you loot your corpse and don't brag!

Goodluck everyone with trying to dupe yourself, hehe

anybody have any ideas on how to make the server stop saving your char? i know its happened to me every now and then while kiting in HoH.

I do, and it works best as a BARD (I've only gotten it to work consistantly with Bard because of the Bard twist/circle MQ2 plug-ins).

 First of all, ur ping rate has to higher then about 2000ms. How do you get a ping rate of higher then 2k ms you ask? One is server lag. Second way is have a satellight connection. This happens to me all the time (starband 750kb download, 100kb upload and terrible ping rate), DSL and cable are not available in my area.

 Second, get ur commands to TIME OUT. Its difficult to tell now with the new UI connection monitor (u used to have a connection dropped %). Use the tell/reply method to be sure...

 Third, know when u are timing out and be able to kill urself QUICK (MOD ROD, DOT, etc).

As stated before, u can tell the server has timed out when u can send tells but can no longer receive replies. I have the ability to send tells to myself (can u say, learn languages without a group?). When I cannot recieve tells I send myself, I know I'm timed out. When this happens, I then start to dot MYSELF down (chants). Typically, I have to be down to at LEAST 5-10% life when i attempt this (time outs dont last long). I click off any HP buff and kill myself (Mod Rod is best).

For this purpose, Dieing is considered a command. Btw, a 'Time Out' is just a sliver away from being LD.

If you got MQ2MoveUtils and MQ2twist spamming commands to ur EQ client and die, the server never catches up to the command - your dead. When u time out >>> STOP macroing /twist 0 /circle off <<< and manually 11 22 33 44 urself to death with dots or MOD ROD. U die and rezone... (Note: turning off ur macros helps ur client computer processor load - i.e. quicker zoning)

On resync the...
Client says ur alive, but in another zone. The server agrees that ur alive and updates ur position.
Client says u have a corpse in what ever zone u were last in, the server accepts that u have a corpse and updates its position with items.
Client says ur naked, server disagrees that u r naked (server never got the command that u died), this causes a database error and u get booted.

U log back in and guess what... Dupage.

A lot of luck has to happen for this to work. For instance,
- U have to rezone at ur bind point before the server resyncs. This is hard to do (ur computer has to be fast).
- If ur on DSL/Cable, chances r you will never get a 2000ms ping rate client side, it will have to be server side.
- If ur computer is mid rezone when it resyncs with the client, the server will recognize this as u died. If u time out too long, the server recognizes that u r LD.

This is why is so hard to duplicate for most of u. I can get this to work 1 out of 4 tries on average (mostly because of my satellight connection). I have not attempted this on any other connection.

Hope this helps...

For those on cable and dsl use netlimiter and have it set at 1k up and down when you zone the server will think you have a very bad ping time i am on 5k ping atm :)

I will be trying this bug later on tonight once my new mobo gets here i should be able to crank my ping way up and zone in like 3 seconds

k, if you get it working, mind going step by step with what you did? i've been trying, but each time it just kicks me to server select, when i get back my bard is still in the zone i tried to die in lol. (with all his eq and no corpse)

Out of suggestion, I might be zoning too fast (me thinks), maybe too high ping for serer to register you deing.

The real trick to this is knowing when you have timed out. One of the reasons i turn off MQ2twist when using a bard to dupe, is because ur cast gems will not refresh when 11223344. Another way to tell if ur timing out is that you will not be able to sit. This can be risky tho. When kiting and then u time out, sitting can be death when the server catches up and u take 10billion pts of damage when the server resysnc's (and no, u will not dupe ur items).

Another important trick I left out. Have urself bound in the succor area of the same zone. This dramatically increases ur repop time when u die (and thus increases ur chance of duping).

On another note, I have had the system crash on me when trying to loot no drop items off of the corpse. This 'can' cause problems if ur EQ client is able to send a bug report (MQ2 doesnt always stop ur client from reporting a crash). My suggestion is to bank ur no drop items before attempting a dupe.

Tried the dupe thing this morning 3/4/05 and could not get it to work (crashed every single time). Anyone else get this to work?

this happend to a friend a few weeks ago, she'd loot her corpse and it would respawn instantly with full gear, lucky for her she had about 6k pp on her when she died (all her gear was no drop sadly) but she just sat and looted that corpse for about an hour and made about 70k before a raid was called. She went LD during that raid and the bug was gone.

If you are going to experiment, try this. I will do this after upgrade comes out.

While facing a zoneline, use /run and you must be a little ways away but far enough to kill yourself before you zone. Set /run 10 and this should cause you to crash after a certain distance - not very far. If you time it right you should be able to zone after death. Try setting /run first to see if it crashes before killing yourself.

Any idea if this still works or not? would love to dupe some fabled gear for people :)

Does this work anymore? Can someone test it out and see (I can't right now cause I belive I am being watched) if you get it working post or pm me plz

I remember when I was on AOL Connection with under 200mb (very old computer) of RAM.

Everytime I played, I would lag, but not too bad to not be able to group, solo, raid.

But when it came to playing my Bard, after 5-10 minutes of Twisting songs, I'd lag so bad that my group would tell me I wasn't doing anything, but I see myself twisting and meleeing mobs.

Once in a Dreadlands group, while I was in the state described above, the Wizard had succored us and I went LD. When I came back, I had died, but I was fully equipped and standing ON top of my fully geared corpse. I was still in my group and everything. I was confused for a moment, and decided to totally strip before anyone could see. And I left the group, dragged corpse to FV tunnel, banked, came back and looted some nice items. "Warblade of the Fallen" - "Phase Spider Carapace" - "Silver Chitin Handwraps" - "Runeboltered Belt" (yeah 2 haste items, heh) - "Fungus Covered Scale Tunic" which I was holding for a friend that LD'd before I gave it back. So I had a free Fungi, I never told anyone in-game about this. Only in RL, and now here.

i managed to dupe an item the other day by accident. Was using the bank at any npc crack, at the uh think brewer vendor in Pok by Main bank, opened it up there, deleted some crap outta the bank to make room for a bag, took out an ornate chain bracer mold to give to my shaman twink on another account, then raid was called so i ran to guild hall to grab a port. While i'm raiding I go make the ornate chain bracer for my shaman twink. After raid i go hit the bank in guild hall on my main to drop off some quest pieces and boom the ornate chain mold is there agian, along with all the stuff i had deleted, and the bag i put IN bank was back in my inventory again. Havent tried to do this again cause i havent been online in a few days. but food for thought /shrug

Did this a while ago. Made 54 mil pp between 3 of us and duped some nice non lore gear like qvic bracers RSS augs etc. Was about 3 months ago. Since then have seen nothing on it.

If you have the knowledge of how to crash a zone, and not get caught, its cake. Has the zone is crashing you rez your toons back in and loot your shit then finish it off. Once the zone is restored all your corpses will be there with full gear. Used to do this a long time ago but hasnt work as of recent. If anyone knows of any new ways of crashing zones toss me a PM =p
