Question - Is There Any Safe & Secure Method To Buying Account on P99 ?

I want to buy an account on P99, but I have read about so many horror stories of buyers getting their accounts taken back 6 months later , either by the original owner or someone the original owner knew and had the required personal info.
I'm concerned because I've read one post that 25 percent of accounts bought on P99 are taken back at some point. Even if the amount is lower , I was curious if there is a "Full Proof" way to buy an account.
I see on most P99 Seller's posts that "SMS" is not yet set.
I'm returning to EQ after a 5 year break.
Is SMS something new?
Is it just for P99 ?
If you buy an account where the SMS isn't set yet (whatever that means ), and the buyer sets his own SMS....can the seller still take back the account at any point ?
Or cause a lockout if a seller decides to sabotage ?
The horror of losing an account you buy goes way beyond losing the money spent at purchase time.
You lose all of the time an effort you put in.
It really is a terrible thing for a buyer to experience. Just imagine if you put in 8 hours a day , 7 days a week for a year. And now it's taken away in a dubious manner.
From hearing so many accounts get stolen back, it seems that a buyer can never be fully protected ?

Easy answer.....don't buy anything on P99, just game for it.

Way to many folks looking for ways to bet others banned

I think your best bet would be the account has no SMS set and the email registered to the account is given to you. SMS I believe is just another "forgot password" option to reset the password on the account. It is just one option though, I think you can still reset the password through the email address even if the SMS is set.

Not only are you fighting against scammers, you're fighting against the server staff. The Character you buy has a permanent history/reputation regardless of how or when they last played. All it take is 1 person to recognize the character's name and then fairly easily realize it's not the original owner because of different mannerisms (your grammar, playtime and play style, etc.)

If you really like what P99's classic experience has to offer(no boxing and no RMT rules are apart of it) then it is 100% worth it to just level your own character. Lvl 1-60 seems like a tall task now but at least you can do it 100% worry free(if you RMT items it's basically the same risk from the server staff as buying an account)

Doing it on my own is the best bet.
What appealed to me about P99 is the original zones and cities before revamp. Where you can kill guards in cities and dwarves at BB docks for XP and loot.
On live and progression / TLP servers you don't get XP from guards and zones/cities revamped. That's not the EQ I loved.
Since RMT on P99 is way too risky....and my concern is not just losing my purchase price ..it's losing my account after investing months into the account.
Since RMT on P99 is not an option , due to the insanity involved in RMT (since P99 RMT involves scammers and GM's who overstep boundaries, and it seems like a community filled with spies and turncoats ).
I rather try Project 2002, since there is no RMT on there anyway.
And on P2002 you can 3-box and it goes up to Planes of Power, which seemed to be the last expansion loved by most. EQ went downhill after POP.
And with POP the Planes it offers are really cool and travel and corpse retrievals are made trivial.
I heard P2002 has a great community.
