These terms cover the RedGuides website and everything attached to it, including the forum, the member store, and the API. By using any of it, you agree to them. "We" and "RedGuides" mean RedGuides LLC. "You" means you.
Multiple Accounts & Sharing
- Do not create more than one RedGuides account per person.
- Do not share RedGuides accounts.
- Sharing a physical computer and/or IP address with someone else will make you liable for their actions.
- We acknowledge the irony that these rules make us essentially a truebox website.
Civility
- Respect your Redbuddies. Users who contribute are not expected to put up with your guff, please treat them as equals and not as servants.
- Read, comprehend, reply. In that order.
- Do not harass the staff. They're attempting to do a job, don't make it harder.
- No spam or advertising. If you're not sure, ask a mod first.
- Please don't post any methods, tips or strategies that would cause a game company to lose business. This includes but is not limited to avoiding payment for subscriptions/expansions, and software or bugs that "break" the game.
- If you want to use a portion of someone's code in your project, please ask permission even if it's open source.
- Do not dox users. This includes their in-game or RL details.
- If a political (especially electoral) topic doesn't directly affect EverQuest or RedGuides, please take it to a different website. Posts encouraging white supremacy or misogyny are never allowed.
- Goodbye threads. If you're leaving the community, your account will be banned as it's no longer needed.
- Don't be a jerk. This is a requisite catch-all rule.
Breaking these rules can get you a warning, a suspension, or a ban. If you think a moderator got it wrong, contact us.
The rest of this page is the legal side.
1. What RedGuides is
Software available through RedGuides, open-source or not, is released under its author's license, and that license governs your use of it, not these terms. Very Vanilla is released under MacroQuest's license. RedGuides is not affiliated with or endorsed by Daybreak Game Company, and EverQuest is its owner's trademark.
2. Who can join
You must be at least 18 years old to register. And if you're under 50 we'd be surprised.
By registering you confirm that you're 18 or older and that nothing in your local law stops you from using a site like this.
3. Your account
- Keep your password to yourself. Anything done while logged in as you counts as you.
- Keep a working email address on your account so we can reach you.
- Staff can read everything you post, including in private areas, and third-party spam filters may check it. Don't post anything you need kept secret.
- We may refuse or reverse any registration.
4. Paid membership
Some downloads, forums, and features need a paid membership.
- Billing. Subscriptions renew automatically at the interval you chose until you cancel. We'll tell you before a price change reaches your next renewal.
- Cancelling. Cancel any time from your member page. You keep access until the paid period ends.
- Refunds. Ask within 14 days of a payment for a full refund, no questions asked. Email [email protected] with your account name. Refunds go out within 72 hours. After 14 days, refunds are at our discretion.
- Chargebacks. Ask us for a refund before disputing a charge with your bank. We may close an account that files a chargeback.
- What you're buying. A membership buys access to RedGuides, not the software here. That software stays under its own license, and a paid resource is bought from the member who sells it (section 6).
5. Software and downloads
Everything you download from RedGuides, whether we host it or link to it, is provided as is.
- Third-party software is third-party. Its authors decide what it does. We don't vouch for it.
- Other people's rules are your problem. Third-party software may break the terms of a game or service you use it with and cost you that account. That risk is yours.
- Your computer, your responsibility. Run antivirus, read what you install, and keep backups.
- Some software isn't welcome here. We don't allow software that staff and the community judge damaging to the spirit of the game. That call is ours, and repeat offenders lose their accounts.
6. What you post
You keep the copyright to what you post.
You give us a non-exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, display, copy, and distribute your content on RedGuides and through our API, for running RedGuides only. Deleted content may remain in quotes, replies, and backups, and if you close your account your posts may stay up under an anonymised name.
Only upload a resource if you have the right to share it under the license you attach.
Selling through RedGuides. Members may sell their own work here. We don't take a cut and aren't a party to the sale. A paid resource is bought from its seller under the seller's license, and support and refunds come from the seller. Sellers are responsible for having the rights to what they sell. All resources must follow the resource rules, and under them we may remove a resource, stop a member selling, or make an unmaintained paid resource free.
Don't post anything illegal, infringing, spammy, or containing someone else's private information, and don't upload game client files. Moderators can edit, move, hide, or delete anything for any reason. We remove other people's posts on request only where the law requires it.
Members' posts are their own views, not ours, and we can't review everything before it goes up.
Copyright complaints. Send copyright notices to [email protected]. We remove material on a valid notice, tell the member who posted it, and accept counter-notices. Repeat infringers lose their accounts.
7. Privacy
Our privacy policy and cookie notice cover how we handle your data.
8. No warranty, limited liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, RedGuides and everything on it is provided as is and as available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
To the fullest extent the law allows, RedGuides LLC and its owners, staff, and volunteers aren't liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss from your use of the site or anything you got from it, including lost data, accounts, characters, time, or money. Our total liability to you is capped at what you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or 20 US dollars if you paid nothing.
If someone brings a claim against us over something you posted or did here, you'll cover our reasonable costs, including attorneys' fees.
9. Ending things
You can close your account by contacting us. Closing it doesn't cancel a subscription, and cancelling doesn't close the account.
We can suspend or close your account, or restrict any part of the site, at any time and without notice, if you break these terms or to protect the community. An account closed for breaking the rules isn't refunded beyond the 14-day window in section 4.
Sections 6, 8, and 10 keep applying after your account is gone.
10. Changes, law, and contact
Changes. The date at the top marks the current version. We'll give notice on the site or by email before a change to billing or your content rights takes effect. Using RedGuides afterwards means you accept it.
Law. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, and any dispute goes to the state or federal courts located in Illinois, unless your local consumer law gives you something better.
Contact. Email [email protected] or use the contact form.
The whole deal. These terms, the rules above, the resource rules, and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between you and RedGuides. If RedGuides LLC changes hands, they go to the new owner. If any part is unenforceable, the rest still stands.
