News - New Expansion Announced (1 Viewer)

--------------

Good day, Norrath!

We are excited to announce we have an expansion on the way - that's right, expansion - not "campaign." As we've been toiling away this year, the content we've been working on evolved and grew more than we expected.

We wanted this expansion to have content that reached beyond the highest-level players. So, in addition to new and updated zones for levels 105, we are including two instanced raid zones for levels 75 to 105 to play in together! These "level agnostic" raid zones will balance themselves to the highest level player in your raid. It just so happens that these two level agnostic zones are the original Plane of Fear and Plane of Hate! So if you never got a chance to raid in those planes, or long for them, you can relive those days with a broader range of players when we launch.

This expansion includes over 15 raids - after getting feedback for more raids over last year's expansion - and a ton of level-scaling missions and Heroic Adventures! And as with previous releases, there will be new AAs, spells, and gear. The story is innovative and impacts gameplay in interesting ways too.

In addition, if you purchase (or pre-order) the next expansion, you'll also get access to ALL of the previous expansion content.

We'll have the full expansion reveal and pre-orders for the 22nd expansion will start on Thursday, October 1, 2015 with detailed information on our website and forums. Also, the EQ team will host a livestream and share highlights, walk through some zones, and answer your questions!

Also, our September update is right around the corner on September 23. It is hefty indeed! It includes a whole host of fixes and updates - with a couple we wanted to highlight here.

We all know that having to reapply all of those clicky buffs from your gear after you die - like Ancestral Memories, Expanding Mind, Form of Defense, Grim Aura, Prismatic Ward - is really annoying! The team "fixed" it! Now you can opt for a permanent passive AA solution for a lot of your clicky gear buffs! This update also addresses some issues we've had with pulling and aggro management in the game. Successful pulling in EQ is - or was - an art form that was eroded over the years and we are bringing some challenge back with some adjustments to Fading Memories and Fling effects. See this post for more info.

For our Time-Locked Progression server players on Ragefire and Lockjaw, we will be adding load-balancing instances, like we did for Nagafen's Lair, to the Plane of Hate and Plane of Fear zones to help with overcrowding. Raid bosses will only appear in the base zones, however. There's a lot more in the update, so look for the patch notes soon!
Of course, as we head into October expect to see the Nights of the Dead come to…uh…life in Norrath! Starting October 1 in the marketplace, we will begin selling new holiday themed weapons, a direhound mount, the long-lost hand mounts, and…a bag with a random adoptable housecat familiar! Trade them to your friends or collect them all yourself, and keep an eye out for the easily terrified Scaredy Cat familiar and always agitated Cranky Cat familiar! We have some wicked Player Studio items too! Nights of the Dead kicks off on October 28 this year until November 11.

As we head into October 1, we're offering a last-chance 50% discount on web purchases of our The Darkened Sea expansion. This will be your last chance to get The Darkened Sea Collector's Edition items. Also, for this limited time, you can also purchase The Darkened Sea at regular price if you want to use Daybreak Cash. This sale ends at 11:59PM Pacific on Wednesday, September 30, 2015!

We will have more details for you about our next expansion in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!

possibly of interest is that the "upgrade" from standard to collectors edition is also half off.

$25 heroic character, house, parrot whistle and etc.

September patch preview:

-------------------------

What's one of the worst things about dying in EverQuest? For many of us it's having to reapply all of those clicky buffs that come on our gear. Ancestral Memories, Expanding Mind, Form of Defense, Grim Aura, Prismatic Ward. Every time you die you need to put all of those things back. It's kind of annoying. So we got rid of it.

Starting with the September 23rd Update, any time you use one of these "standard" item clicks, you will be given an appropriate passive AA that gives you the same effect, permanently. If you only wanted the stats from the buffs, you never have to activate the items again. If you decide you want to use the buff slots (to protect others from being dispelled, for example), you can still use your standard items to get "shadow" buffs that apply no effects but take up a slot. Here's a list of the lines that have been consolidated:

Ancestral Memories
Aura of Battle
Breath of Atathus
Expanding Mind
Form of Defense
Form of Endurance
Form of Protection
Form of Rejuvenation
Grim Aura
Might of Stone
Myrmidon's Skill
Prismatic Ward
Knowledge of the Past / Soothing Breath*

*You can only have one of Knowledge of the Past or Soothing Breath active at the same time. If you activate one you will deactivate the other.

Should you ever wish to get rid of your passive item effects, you can activate the new ability "Item: Disable Item Abilities" and all of your passives will be reset. You can then reuse your items to get back any lines that you want.

Not every line of buffs lent itself to this method, so the following lines of clicky buffs were converted to permanent duration effects that persist through death:

Aura of the Void
Essence of Ruaabri
Gnoll Reaver Fortitude
Gunthak Grit / Fortitude
Illusionary Spikes
Thorny Shield

We think you'll agree that these changes make life more convenient for everyone. Some of our changes, however, won't...

Fading Memories and Fling

We've been examining the meta-game and pulling isn't quite the challenge it used to be. One of the reasons for this are that several of the initially intended effects of the Fading Memories ability never worked the way they were intended to. We've re-worked the Fade effect in the following ways:
  1. Fade currently applies a "hidden" effect to the caster when it is activated. This effect is permanent (except for rogues, on whom it immediately breaks if they're not sneaking) and can't be dispelled or wear off. We're changing it to apply an explicit buff when it's effective, and to not apply that buff if it fails. Not only will this let you see whether you're invisible or not directly, it will also allow us to apply different effects to different classes.
  2. Fade has always had code that was intended to make the invisibility it offers fail if you were within 30 feet of NPCs that hate you. Unfortunately, that check never worked. Now it will, meaning that you must put a decent distance between yourself and the NPCs before you can become invisible.
  3. While many of the spells we've used Fade on have specified a percentage of effectiveness, a bug meant that any Fade spell without a duration would ignore that percentage. We've found and fixed that bug as well, meaning that any Fade spell that was intended to have a less than 100% chance to remove hate now has that lower chance.
  4. Fade effects now have the ability to be capped by level. The original abilities will be capped at level 75, and classes that have those abilities will have upgrades added to increase their caps with each level cap extension. From levels 75-105 the level cap on fade effects will be yellow con NPCs (your level + 2) for most classes and level +5 for certain classes (Bards, Monks, Rogues, Shadowknights, Rangers).
Fling effects have also been in heavy use in the past few years, and together with fade have made pulling any encounter almost trivial. We're also adding level limits to fling to combat this. Players will no longer be able to fling NPCs that are not below their level, meaning you will probably want to pull minions away from a boss now rather than the other way around.

We understand that the net results of these changes are going to make pulling harder to do in general, but that is the intent. By adding challenge back into the pulling game we can allow skilled players to once again separate themselves from the unskilled. We chose these particular methods over others (such as putting longer lockouts on them) because we want the abilities to remain useful in the majority of cases, but also we want to return some of the player skill to the pulling and aggro management game.

These changes will be included in the patch rolling out on September 23, 2015!

you can send in a ticket if it has only been a few days, sometimes they will rebate you or credit you with DBC

Also some other stuff:

If you don't want to buy collector's edition of TDS, Heroic Characters go on sale tomorrow for 2500 SC. Depending on what you want may be better to get the heroic now, then just buy new xpac which would include TDS.

EQResource has also posted some interesting info about in game bonuses that will start soon (?) until the xpac launch. Check out their front page for details. Basically looks like rotating in game bonuses for a month including DBL XP, named spawns, faction, and reduced lockouts.

There is supposed to be a stream or some type of announcement on Oct. 1 with LOTS of details about the new xpac release.

ps. Remember most of these sales end the last day of September.
