If we're using a custom UI under \EverQuest\uifiles\<custom UI> do we need a similar folder structure under MQ2 like \VeryVanilla\Live\Release\uifiles\<custom UI> containing the MQ2-relevant UI files from the \default folder to ensure they get loaded/used with the custom UI?

the customui folder is just where stuff that mq2 wants to use can get pulled from - you should leave anything in there that is mq2 related, in there, and not copy it out of that directory.

you don't need to do anything with them.

in-fact, people who do that will create themselves issues in the future if those mq2 ui files get updated (since they would be loading from elsewhere first and be loading the old files). I had to add this specifically to the cwtn UI video because folks would copy the file outta there

Even in general EQ you should only have the files in your custom UI folder that you have modified. Default behavior is to load from "default" if it doesn't exist in the custom ui folder.
