As you get higher and higher in your tradeskill, you get more crafting buttons to mash. If your highest set of three isn't working, try mashing the other ones. It's no longer about hitting the old 123, 123, 123.

Try the lower or 2nd tiered buttons when your higher tiered ones aren't working. Almost half of the time, they help you raise power anywhere from 5-15.
